Earlier in my career, I worked as a stone sculptor specializing in the restoration of medieval structures. After transitioning from this field, I established a career in sales and relocated to Sint Maarten in 1986. Upon retiring, I chose to return to artistic pursuits, focusing on wood as my medium and embracing wood turning as my principal form of expression.
Typically, I begin each project with a general concept, allowing the unique qualities of each piece of wood to guide its final transformation. I believe that art should be both aesthetically appealing and functional. As a committed nature conservationist, I exclusively use sustainable wood—sourced from fallen or pruned branches—to ensure environmentally responsible practices. Occasionally, I acquire materials found during my travels.
Ultimately, my objective is to create works that showcase the natural beauty of the wood while serving practical purposes in daily life. All bowls are finished with natural, food-safe products such as mineral oil and beeswax.
